1656 — 1746

Nationality: France
Nicolas de Largillière was a French painter and one of the leading portraitists of the late Grand Siècle and early Rococo. He forged a sumptuous manner combining warm colour, luxuriant renderings of fabrics and elegant staging, shaped by his years in England and by the traditions of the Académie royale in Paris. His works—whether likenesses of aristocrats and bourgeois sitters or allegorical and group portraits—are distinguished by precise physiognomies, opulent textures and refined light.
