Georg Engelhard Schröder was an 18th-century Swedish painter best known as a court portraitist. A pupil of David von Krafft, he spent more than twenty years travelling through Europe, including Germany, Italy, France and England, before returning to Stockholm in 1724. He became court painter and produced numerous portraits of King Frederick I and Queen Ulrika Eleonora. Influenced by Italian painting and European portraiture, his work stands at the transition between the Baroque and Rococo periods.
